Gwo Ka meditation & the 4 elements

Guadeloupe

Terry Dorville, also known as Ty Dowvil, will reveal with passion the essential rhythms of Gwo Ka, offering everyone the chance to reconnect and recentre through the vibrations of the drum — carried at once by water, wind, earth and his own harmonious voice.

Meditation experience

Image 1 of 5

In partnership with Karikamo, he offers a Gwo Ka meditation in symbiosis with the 4 elements, inviting each person on a sensory journey into the heart of nature.

The session lasts 25 minutes (adaptable), welcomes up to 30 people, and takes place by reservation in enchanting settings: beside a river, at the Chutes du Carbet or the rivers of la Traversée (Parc National de la Guadeloupe); by a beach, at Saint-François (Anse à la Gourde) or Deshaies (Grande-Anse, La Perle). The practitioner speaks French and Creole.

Programme

  1. Step 1 : Arrival and welcome

Visitors are welcomed by Ty Dowvil (and his team). They are invited to unwind and relax from the moment they arrive. Meanwhile the practitioner introduces himself and briefly explains how the session will run.

  2. Step 2 : Introducing Gwo Ka and the traditional drum

In this part, the practitioner introduces Gwo Ka, an ancestral musical form unique to Guadeloupe, and its seven distinct rhythms. He also explains the traditional process of making the Guadeloupean drum, bringing out its cultural and historical importance.

  3. Step 3 : The group meditation begins

Once the introduction is over, the group meditation begins. Participants are invited to listen closely to the instructions of the practitioner and his interpreter. The aim is a complete wellbeing session in harmony with the four elements around us: earth, water, air and fire.

  4. Step 4 : Guided meditation

The practitioner guides participants through a meditation that explores each element in turn. Participants are encouraged to connect by visualising the energy of the elements and feeling their effects on body and mind. The meditation may include breathing, visualisation and deep relaxation exercises.

  5. Step 5 : Refreshment and conversation

At the end of the meditation, participants are invited to refresh themselves with local drinks and to share their experience with the practitioner and the other participants, with the chance to ask questions or offer reflections on the meditation.
